The Incredible Story of Riverbend on the Frio

Story of Riverbend

Riverbend on the Frio is a family-friendly RV park with Cabins located on the crystal clear Frio River in Concan, TX. We have been welcoming campers since 1955, and we are proud to continue the tradition of providing our guests with a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Our campground has a rich history. It was originally founded by Harry Ritchie and many of our longtime returning families still remember the camp this way. The office building, where the suites are now located, was originally a bowling alley! It later became a café for campers and is now a gift shop to supply visitors with all of their river needs. The park was later bought by the Yeargan family in 1970. After the Yeargan’s owned Riverbend for over 40 years, we took over ownership of the campground and renamed it Riverbend on the Frio.

We’re proud to be more than just a vacation spot—we’re also a perfect stopover for travelers heading to Big Bend National Park. Located between San Antonio and Big Bend, Riverbend offers a scenic and restful halfway point to relax, recharge, and enjoy the river before continuing your adventure west. Whether you're towing an RV, road-tripping across Texas, or simply seeking a quiet night off the beaten path, our off-season (October through April) offers the ideal place to unwind.

Our amenities include:

  • Spacious/shaded RV sites with water and electric hookups

  • Indoor units with air conditioning and kitchenettes

  • A playground

  • 9-hole disc golf course

  • Easy Frio River access

  • Sand volleyball

  • Watercraft rentals (kayaks, tubes, paddleboards) & shuttle service

  • A catch-and-release fishing pond

We’re also located just minutes from iconic outdoor destinations like Garner State Park, Lost Maples State Park, and the scenic town of Leakey—making us a favorite basecamp for nature lovers, hikers, and those taking the scenic route to Big Bend.

From May through September, Riverbend is full of life—families, friends, and longtime guests enjoying sunny days on the Frio. During our off-season, the pace slows, offering a peaceful and secluded experience perfect for couples, solo travelers, and digital nomads looking to get back to nature.

Whether you're here for a weekend getaway, a family tradition, or a memorable stop on your way to Big Bend, we look forward to welcoming you to Riverbend on the Frio. 🙂
